Tokyo Board of Education to train teachers at Ground SDF The Tokyo Metropolitan Board of Education has added the Ground Self-Defense Force facilities to the places for retraining public school teachers. Although the board says the training at GSDF does not include the use of firearms, the plan has given rise to criticism among teachers. The retraining program has been for teachers in their eleventh year on the job since FY 2003. This year's training is scheduled for August 4 and will train about 800 teachers. Training has so far been held at government offices, companies, and social welfare facilities. The Tokyo Teachers Union and the Tokyo Metropolitan Union of Teachers in Schools for Handicapped Children requested the Board of Education to cancel the training at the SDF. -- Akahata August 4, 2005 |
