Fuwa and Shii make speeches to prepare JCP for general election The Japanese Communist Party, together with its supporters organizations, held a national rally on August 19 at the JCP head office in preparation for the September 11 House of Representatives general election. The meeting, attended by about 1,000 people, was broadcast live via the communication satellite system. JCP members and supporters listened to speeches by JCP leaders at 360 locations throughout Japan. This was the first such event to be held before a general election. In reporting on political debates, JCP Chair Shii Kazuo stressed the importance of making known to the public the policy and the role of the JCP as the only reliable opposition party in contrast with the "two major parties" with deepening confusion over their policies. JCP Central Committee Chair Fuwa Tetsuzo spoke about how the political deadlock can be broken. He criticized the Liberal Democratic Party for always acting at the U.S. beck and call and for giving favors to large corporations and squandering tax money on a military build-up that has led the national economy to an impasse. Fuwa emphasized that Japan's political future hinges on the JCP's advance in the general election as the party that offers real alternatives to LDP and quasi-LDP politics. -- Akahata, August 20, 2005 |
