Ways to develop grassroots movement for progressive change in politics held in Yokohama

Grassroots activists participating in the National Association for a Peaceful, Democratic and Progressive Japan (Kakushkon)held a national exchange meeting November 12-13 in Yokohama.

The discussion focused on how the Kakushinkon movement can build national unity to stop the reckless policies promoted by the ruling Liberal Democratic and Komei parties with the Koizumi government, including the adverse revision of the Constitution.

Activists representing the Kakushinkon movement in various places of work and various regions spoke on their experiences in signature collection drives, educational activities, and efforts to improve working conditions.

Naruse Noboru, a Kakushinkon national coordinator, said, "The force of majority of the LDP and Komei in parliament cannot silence the public. We must give our popular verdict on their undemocratic policies."

Speaking on the present political situation, Ichida Tadayoshi, Japanese Communist Party Secretariat head, emphasized that the JCP and the Kakushinkon movement stand for a majority of the people wishing for peace and human dignity, making the movement more important than ever.

The meeting was attended by 517 people. -- Akahata, November 13 & 14, 2005
