Activists protest against U.S. military realignment and beef imports resumption

On November 15, the day U.S. President George W. Bush arrived in Japan for talks with Prime Minister Koizumi Jun'ichiro, Japanese activists made representations to the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo opposing the U.S. military realignment in Japan and resumption of U.S. beef imports to Japan.

Nine organizations took part in this action, including the Central Action Committee against the Japan-U.S. Security Treaty, the National Campaign for Defense of the People's Food and Health, and the National Federation of Farmers Movement.

In front of the U.S. Embassy, the participants read a statement demanding that the U.S. government conduct BSE tests on all beef cows and handed it to an embassy official.

After the action, they took to the streets in downtown Tokyo to distribute flyers and call on passers-by to sign the petition in opposition to the realignment of U.S. forces in Japan. -- Akahata, November 16, 2005
