Barney Richards (National President, Peace Council Aotearoa New Zealand) It is with honor that Peace Council Aotearoa New Zealand supports fully the new initiatives by Gensuikyo for the abolishment once and for all of the nuclear threat hanging over every living thing on this planet. The world has lived with this terror for 60 years and it is time to put an end to it. There is no doubt that the US leads the world in the development of new, more powerful weapons of mass destruction with other countries following suit. The US leads the arms race with Russia not far behind. This new nuclear arms race between Russia and the US, and the great danger this represents, is ignored by the mainstream US media. The American people and the rest of the world are being kept ignorant of the very great danger facing us all. The future of humanity is at stake. The world is being told that the Cold War is over - nothing could be further from the truth. While millions around the world die every year from malnutrition and lack of adequate health care, untold billions are being spent on new research on weapons of mass death, and that includes WMD in outer space. There is no doubt that we face a crisis of major proportions. It is difficult to comprehend that the human race faces extinction. This is the message we must get through to those who don't realize the very real danger facing us all. There has to be an ongoing education programme on the nuclear threat which must be led by Hibakusha, but we must all get involved. It is all very well attending peace conferences around the world, and there are many peace conferences taking place, but the general public is ignorant of these conferences because the media in our countries don't regard peace issues as news. So it is up to us to take the message to the people, it is you and me who must be on the front line along the Hibakusha. If we don't do it...who will? Gerald O'Brien (President of Honour, Peace Council of Aotearoa-New Zealand Inc.) Thank you for inviting us to participate in this new Signature Campaign. We agree both with the analysis and with the objective and planned action.I am sure that we can guarantee the adherence of the New Zealand Council of Trade Unions as previously and if you are accepting, as was done for the Hiroshima Nagasaki Appeal, corporate signatures, that will start us with 360,000 from New Zealand. This is a difficult time of the year for organisation here with the holiday period approaching in a few days, but I will respond as quickly as we obtain an answer from the CTU. It is a great pleasure to be once again alongside Gensuikyo in a great initiative for total abolition. Barney has been wrestling with other peace groups here over the Peace City initiative, holding strongly as we do to the "Nuclear Free City" status rather than the generalised "Peace City" concept. We pledge our complete adherence to the aim and purpose and action for this new campaign.
John Hallam (Friends of the Earth Aurstralia) Friends of the Earth Australia is happy to endorse this call.
Pierre Villard (Co-President, French Peace Movement) It's OK for us. You can have our support. Jean-Marie Matagne (President, Action des Citoyens pour le DŽsarmement NuclŽaire/ Action of Citizens for the total Dismantling of Nukes-ACDN) We endorse.
Hannelore Tšlke (Deutscher Friedensrat/German Peace Council) German Peace Council will endorse your initiative "Call for a Swift Abolition of Nuclear Weapons". Regarding the results NPT Review Conference we completely agree with you, more than 60 years after the end of the Second World War our efforts of a peaceful and nuclear weapon free world has to be doubled. So we found it is really a good idea to launch a campaign like yours. We will circulate the text "Call for the Swift Abolition of Nuclear Weapons" in the next month in the German Peace Movement and especially on events like Peace Marches on Easter (in April), Memorial day of Hiroshima, 6th August, Memorial day against war on 1st September. For this reason we made a translation meantime. Please keep us informed. Good luck for your press-conference on the 22nd December.

I would really appreciate to receive from your site also a reply to this request.
Kate Hudson (Chair, Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament) Many thanks Taka San. I am delighted to put my name to it. Frank Jackson (Co-Chair, World Disarmament Campaign) The World Disarmament Campaign UK fully supports the call for the swift abolition of all nuclear weapons, and for negotiations to start as soon as possible towards that end. It is 35 years since the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, which commits the nuclear weapon states to such negotiations, and to the elimination of their weapons, came into force. That there are many thousands of nuclear weapons still in existence, with the capacity to destroy the whole of civilisation, if not most life on earth, is a condemnation of every leader who has contributed to this situation, whether by authorising their manufacture or deployment, or simply by not actively pursuing their abolition. The first leader of a major nuclear weapon power who openly recognises and declares that nuclear weapons do not provide security, but on the contrary increase everyone's insecurity, and takes the first steps towards abolition, will go down in history as one of the greatest statesmen or stateswomen of all time. Let us hope that someone with the courage to be that leader emerges soon. Good luck with the campaign. George Farebrother (Secretary, World Court Project) I am very happy, on behalf of World Court Project UK to endorse GENSUIKYO's call for the Abolition of Nuclear Weapons. I hope to be in Vancouver next summer and may well come into contact with you there. I also attach information about our Affirmations of Freedom from Nuclear Weapons. There is a Japanese version, an explanation about how an organisation like yours can use it and an explanation of the thinking behind the Affirmations. You can read about World Court Project UK on our website on www.gn.apc.org/wcp. I can send you the Japanese attachment in Word Format if you want to alter it for your own purposes. The Affirmations are not an alternative to your Appeal, rather they supplement it as they provide an opportunity for individual citizens to provide evidence of The Public Conscience which will be of legal significance to organisations such as the International Court of Justice. Jenny Maxwell (Chair, West Midlands CND) On behalf of West Midlands Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, I wholeheartedly support your call for a Swift Abolition of Nuclear Weapons. Tony Simpson (Bertrand Russell Peace Foundation) We're strongly in favour of the abolition of all nuclear weapons. We wish you good luck in your efforts.
Ole Kopreitan (Secretary General, No to Nuclear Weapons) Thank you for sending us the proposal for a new signature campaign which we fully support both the organisation "No to nuclear weapons" and I personally. ÉOn behalf of No to nuclear weapons I wish you all good luck with the campaign and a peaceful new year.

We can post it on our Abolition 2000 website and circulate it to our network. Joseph Gerson (American Friends Service Committee) I am honored by your request to endorse the "Call for a Swift Abolition of Nuclear Weapons", and I am deeply appreciative of your aggressive strategic thinking. Thank you for launching this. Please do include my name on the list of initial endorsers: Dr. Joseph Gerson, Director of Programs, American Friends Service Committee Ð New England Region David Potorti (Co-Director, September 11th Families for Peaceful Tomorrows) September 11th Families for Peaceful Tomorrows is honored to endorse your Call for a Swift Abolition of Nuclear Weapons. We feel a special bond with the Hibakusha, who have committed their lives to bearing witness to the horrors of nuclear bombs. By promoting dialogues on alternatives to war, all of us at Peaceful Tomorrows hope to see the day when terrorism, violence and war are obsolete, particularly the terrorism of nuclear weapons. Colleen Kelly (September 11 Families for Peaceful Tomorrows) We have received your request and forwarded it on to the Steering Committee of Peaceful Tomorrows. What an important initiative and enormous undertaking! We will reply promptly. Are there other ways we can help? Have you reached out to UFPJ?? Al Marder (President, US Peace Council/ Vice-President, International Association of Peace Messenger Cities) The US Peace Council endorses your anti-nuclear weapons petition and will plan to circulate it, as well as bring it to the attention of other organizations and networks. As soon as you have a template please forward it. I am organizing a seminar at the World Social Forum in Caracas, Venezuela on nuclear weapons. We will bring it up there. If there will be printed copies, it would be worthwhile to forward some to me. É. The height of the anti-nuclear weapons movement was in the 80s. There was widespread global outrage by ordinary citizens at the threat by Reagan to use nuclear weapons. This outrage drove the movement. This outrage, not negotiations on the top level, brought people into the streets. This is our task today, creating a tsunami of public opinion, a public opinion fueled by the danger of proliferation and madness of the present US administration. Your petition/statement is one important measure, forcing us to go out and talk to our neighbors. Every organization/country should be involved in this. How to get millions of signatures must be on the agenda of the Assembly of Abolition 2000 at Vancouver as well as in the many workshops taking place there. Likewise at the World Social Forum meetings. Just as the opposition to the Iraq war by the people is finally forcing a debate here, we must force a global debate on abolition, providing support for those governments ready to push forward on the issue. Greg Mello (Executive Director, Los Alamos Study Group) Please add our enthusiastic endorsement to your excellent call. Denise Lytle I support the abolition of nuclear weapons
Phyllis Creighton (Vice-president, Science for Peace) The executive of Science for Peace agreed yesterday to have our organization endorse your new petition drive. And send you all good wishes for the success of your press conference on the 22nd. John Price (Associate Professor, University of Victoria/ Member, Vancouver City Peace and Justice Committee) I endorse and sign on to your campaign. Patricia Willis (Pacific Campaign for Disarmament & Security-PCDS) You can add my name as an endorser - but my affiliation is for purposes of identification only. This is an endorsement in my personal capacity. AndrŽs Thomas Conteris (Program Director for Latin America and the Caribbean Nonviolence International) Nonviolence International would like to endorse.
Luis GutiŽrrez Esparza (President, C’rculo Latinoamericano de Estudios Internacionales-CLAEI/ Latin American Circle for International Studies -LACIS - Fundaci—n por la Paz en la Era Nuclear-FPEN, affiliated with the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation-NAPF) We gladly endorse your "Call for the Swift Abolition of Nuclear Weapons"! Please, tell us what else can we do, to help your organization in this campaign. In peace and with our best wishes for year 2006,
Dr. Rajmah Hussain (Ambassador of Malaysia to Austria; Permanent Representative to the UN in Vienna) With reference to your e-mail dated 16 December 2005 on the above campaign, I am pleased to assure you of my support for your initiative.
