Okinawan local assemblies call for withdrawal of U.S. F-15 units

In protest against the crash of an F-15 fighter from the U.S. Kadena Air Base in Okinawa on January 17, local assemblies hosting the air base adopted unanimous resolutions.

The Uruma City Assembly on January 17 adopted a resolution calling for the suspension of flights of U.S. F-15s at least until the result of the investigation into the accident's cause is released. It also demands that the U.S. Air force stop F-15 flights over residential areas.

The resolution the Kadena Town Assembly adopted on January 18 emphasized that the F-15 fighter, which caused crashes and accidents so many times, without doubt has fatal defects. "All the F-15 units must be withdrawn from the U.S. Kadena Air Base," it says.

The Okinawa City Assembly adopted a similar statement on the same day, emphasizing, "The plan to temporarily redeploy F-15 squadrons at bases outside Okinawa for training is unwelcome. There is no solution but to withdraw them from Kadena."
