Naha City Assembly calls for halt to U.S. F-15 flights The Naha City Assembly in Okinawa Prefecture on January 22 adopted a unanimous resolution in protest against a U.S. F-15 fighter crash on January 17 and demanding a halt to F-15 flights until the U.S. forces complete their investigation into the cause of the accident and publish the result. Stressing the possibility that the accident could lead to a major disaster because the F-15 crashed in a local fishing area east of Okinawa's main island, the resolution stated that it has caused major concerns and shock among Okinawan residents. The city assembly also criticized the U.S. forces for resuming F-15 flights two days after the accident. - Akahata, January 23, 2006 |
