Government failed to inspect U.S. beef before resuming import Agriculture Minister Nakagawa Shoichi admitted at the January 30 House of Representatives Budget Committee meeting that his ministry failed to carry out the government's decision to hold on-site inspections in the U.S. before resuming U.S. beef imports in December. At a press conference on the same day, Japanese Communist Party Secretariat Head Ichida Tadayoshi stated that Nakagawa's responsibility is so grave that he must resign as minister. He added that Prime Minister Koizumi Jun'ichiro must be held responsible because his Cabinet gives priority to U.S. demands over citizens' life and safety. - Akahata, January 31, 2006 |
