Government representatives support Gensuikyo's anti-nuclear initiative Government representatives who are playing significant roles in international efforts to achieve nuclear disarmament have expressed their support to the new signature campaign "For the Swift Abolition of Nuclear Weapons" launched by the Japan Council against A & H Bombs (Japan Gensuikyo). Their letters sent to Japan Gensuikyo are as follows. Rajmah Hussain Ambassador of Malaysia to Austria & Permanent Representative to the U.N. in Vienna With reference to your e-mail dated 16 December 2005 on the above campaign, I am pleased to assure you of my support for your initiative. This is in line with Malaysia's and NAM's policy and commitment to nuclear disarmament and the abolition of nuclear weapons. Thank you. Luis Alfonso de Alba Permanent Representative of Mexico to the U.N. I thank you for your kind letter, which I just received after a long trip to Mexico and New York. I warmly congratulate you on your new campaign to further consolidate the public support of a total ban on nuclear weapons. I encourage you to pursue these efforts, so that the setbacks experienced in the field of nuclear disarmament in 2005 can be overcome. The Government of Mexico remains convinced that the only guarantee to free humanity from the danger posed by nuclear weapons is their total elimination. Therefore, the Government of Mexico has worked and continues to work with other countries, such as the members of the New Agenda Coalition, as well as non-governmental organizations, to achieve the objective of a nuclear weapons free world. Mohamed Ezzeldine Abdel-Moneim -Special Advisor, the League of Arab States When in Nagasaki, I declared that I am a peace militant and not only a peace activist. Therefore, I should be considered a signatory to the document which I certainly endorse. There is no time for inaction and, as you rightly pointed out, we should not be discouraged by the meagre outcome in relevant international forums. This will be a crucial year and, as long as we work hard, a turning point shall be achieved and we shall be closer to the ultimate goal of peace, prosperity and justice. - Akahata, February 18, 2006 |
