Stop educational 'structural reform' - Zenkyo convention

The All Japan Teachers and Staff Union (Zenkyo) adopted the 2006 action plan that includes the prevention of the revision to the Constitution and to the Fundamental Law of Education at its annual convention held in Tokyo on February 18-20.

Zenkyo Chair Ishimoto Iwao in the keynote report criticized the ﾒstructural reformﾓ policy of the Koizumi government for making education more competitive and increasing administrative control over education only to give rise to the ﾒtendency to despise other people.ﾓ He emphasized the importance of preventing a bill to revise the Fundamental Law of Education from submission to the Diet.

He called on parents and the public at large as well as teachers and staff to demand educational reform to benefit the people, closely linked with the struggle to protect and make use of the Constitution and the Fundamental Law of Education.
