U.S. Marines in Iwakuni arrested In Iwakuni City in Yamaguchi Prefecture, two U.S. marines stationed at the U.S. Marine Corps Iwakuni Air Station were arrested on suspicion of damaging property and driving under the influence of alcohol. They are Terrence Hughes (20) and Ilijah Christopher (23). Hughes, around 11 p.m. on February 24, allegedly broke a window of a parked car by throwing a bicycle at the car. He was drunk and denied the charge. Christopher was driving a car under the influence of alcohol around 5 a.m. on February 25. He allegedly collided with a van owned by a company employee, who was slightly injured. In 2003 and 2004 in Iwakuni City, U.S. troops caused 129 car accidents (26 cases causing injury or death and 103 cases resulting in damaging properties) and 33 other crimes (1 vicious crime 1, 10 assaults, 18 burglaries, and 4 trespassings). - Akahata, February 27, 2006 |
