JCP urges Governor Ishihara to not allow Yokota Air Base's perpetuation At the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly meeting on March 27, Japanese Communist Party representative Sone Hajime criticized Governor Ishihara Shintaro for accepting the plan to perpetuate the U.S. Yokota Air Base located in the western suburbs of Tokyo as part of the realignment of U.S. forces in Japan. Sone pointed out that the U.S. forces' global transformation plan includes the use of the Yokota air base with command functions for U.S. preemptive wars to be waged by the Japanese Air Self-Defense Force and the U.S. Air Force in Japan. "The governor promised to work for the return of the U.S. Yokota Air Base site to Japan in his gubernatorial election platform. Supporting the U.S. military realignment plan will only help delay the fulfillment of this promise," Sone said. - Akahata, March 28, 2006 |
