Omitama City Assembly opposes U.S. military relocation The city assembly of Ibaraki PrefectureÕs Omitama City, where the Japanese Air Self-Defense Force Hyakuri base is located, on April 11 unanimously adopted a resolution rejecting the government plan to allow U.S. forces to conduct military exercises at the base as part of the U.S. military realignment plan. The plan designates the Hyakuri base as one of the sites to relocate U.S. military aircraft exercises. Omitama is a new city established through the merger of Minori Town, Hyakuri base-hosting Ogawa Town, and Tamasato Village. - Akahata, April 12, 2006 |
