JCP holds two-day meeting to discuss JCP activities in workplaces

The Japanese Communist Party on April 22 and 23 held a meeting at its head office to analyze situations in workplaces and share experiences of JCP branches in the struggle against corporate attacks on workers. Over 400 JCP activists in various workplaces and prefectural and district committee members attended.

In the two-hour keynote report, JCP Chair Shii Kazuo stated that a JCP survey of more than 270 JCP branches shows the present state of workplaces will endanger the future of Japanese society if nothing will be done to change the course.

Referring to the present economic situation, Shii stated that the present adverse effects of "capitalism without rules" and "neoliberalism" are prevalent at Japan's workplaces, as pointed out by the JCP 24th Congress.

Analyzing how Japan's business circles and major corporations are increasing their control in workplaces, Shii cited the sharp increase in the number of contingent employees and worsening conditions of full-time employees due to the introduction of the results-based pay system.

Shii said that the need now is for the JCP to organize a counter offensive against the adverse effects of these two changes of contingent workers and the result-based pay system that are seriously affecting the well-being of the public. Putting an end to the unlawful and arbitrary control of the business circles and major corporations over workplaces is also an urgent social task, he emphasized.

On how to increase JCP branch activities in workplaces, Shii encouraged them to carry out self-reliant activities based on carefully thought-out "policies and plans." He stressed the need for JCP members in workplaces to increase their day-to-day solidarity with the workers, and promote human relations and mutual trust.

Shii also called for rallying workers' discontent with wage cuts and other attacks on the workers as well as their various demands by rallying contingent workers. He also addressed the need to launch a counter offensive against attacks on public employees, and recruit young JCP members at workplaces who will succeed the struggle at workplaces.

In the two-day meeting, 36 members spoke.

In summing up the discussions Shii said that the meeting had focused on winning an advance in Japan's labor movement based on the JCP 24th Congress decision and in strengthening JCP workplace branches. Stressing that this will have a great impact on the future of the JCP and Japan, Shii called on participants to make every effort to achieve a major advance in these tasks.
