JCP Shii meets with Chinese Counsellor Kong

Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo on April 25 met with Chinese Minister Counsellor Kong Xuanyou of the Chinese Embassy at the JCP head office. Kong has recently been assigned to the post.

Kong said that at a time when Japan-China relations are experiencing difficulties, he will work to make relations between the JCP and the Communist Party of China even more active.

Welcoming Kong's arrival, JCP Chair Shii stated that the JCP-CPC relations have developed remarkably since their normalization eight years ago. Referring to the theoretical exchanges held successfully between the two parties last December, Shii stated that the JCP will further develop such exchanges in accordance with the JCP 24th Congress Resolution.

Kong stated that in the changing international situation, the CPC is facing many difficult problems that are not dealt with in the existing textbooks and that their solution cannot be found by the CPC alone. This is why he believes it necessary to increase exchanges with the JCP and other communist parties, he added.

Shii said that the JCP and the CPC are basically in agreement on the issue of historical issues, and that the JCP is making efforts to rally the majority of Japanese people in support of the solution of the issues based on justice.

Because the issue of historical interpretation is not just a matter to be dealt with between Japan and China or between Japan and Korea, but is a matter that affects the very basis of the postwar international order, the Japanese people must independently solve this problem, Shii stated.
