Ginoza Village Assembly unanimously opposes construction of a new U.S. base Okinawa's Ginoza Village Assembly on April 28 unanimously adopted a resolution and statement expressing its opposition to the agreement reached on April 7 between the Defense Agency Director General Nukaga Fukushiro, Nago City Mayor Shimabukuro Yoshikazu, and Ginoza Village Head Azuma Hajime to relocate the U.S. Futenma Air Station to Nago City, which is next to Ginoza village. While Okinawa Prefecture and Ginoza Village oppose the relocation plan, only the village head has accepted it. The village assembly chair Shiroma Seishun firmly opposed the agreement, saying, "Who can assure us that U.S. forces will do nothing wrong in this rural area, given the fact that they have broken many promises at the Futenma base located in an urban area? We will demand that no U.S. military plane be allowed to fly over the village." - Akahata, April 29, 2006 |
