Kadena Town Assembly demands removal of U.S. F-15 fighters

The Kadena Town Assembly in Okinawa Prefecture on May 10 unanimously adopted a statement calling for the removal of a F-15 fighter unit from the U.S. Kadena Air Base. It is to be sent to Prime Minister Koizumi Jun'ichiro.

Pointing out that frequent accidents caused by F-15 fighter jets are threatening residents' lives, safety, and properties, the statement stressed, "The removal of the F-15 unit is the only way to get rid of the fear and anxiety of the residents."

On May 2, an F-15 fighter careered off the runway at the Kadena base due to a landing gear malfunction.
