JCP Ichida calls for swift withdrawal of SDF units from Iraq

Japanese Communist Patty Secretariat Head Ichida Tadayoshi commented on the formation of the new Iraqi government at a press conference on May 22 and called for the swift withdrawal of Self-Defense Force units from Iraq.

Ichida stated, "I hope that Iraq's rehabilitation and reconstruction will be dealt with by the Iraqi people themselves," pointing out that the majority in the United States call for the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq.

Emphasizing that international assistance in Iraq's reconstruction must be increased under the United Nations' initiative, Ichida reiterated that SDF units must be withdrawn without delay from Iraq.
