Hibakusha call on JCP for help in revision of A-bomb disease standards The Japan Confederation of A and H Bomb Sufferers Organizations (Nihon Hidankyo), lawyers for plaintiffs in collective lawsuits calling for their illnesses to be recognized as caused by A-bomb radiation, and their supporters' network on May 23 visited Japanese Communist Party representatives in the Diet and asked for cooperation in getting the government to drastically improve the administration in certifying A-bomb victims with illnesses related to the atomic bombing. They called on the JCP to use its influence on the Health, Labor, and Welfare Ministry to drastically improve the certifying standards so that Hibakusha can be recognized as A-bomb disease patients. Tohei Nori, a Nihon Hidankyo leader, criticized the Health, Labor, and Welfare Ministry for filing an appeal without meeting with them despite a court ruling supporting Hibakusha's claims. Japanese Communist Party Policy Commission Chair Koike Akira said that the JCP will do its utmost to meet their requests. - Akahata, May 24, 2006 |
