JCP demands resignation of Fukui as BOJ governor

The Japanese Communist Party is demanding the resignation of Fukui Toshihiko as the Bank of Japan governor following the revelation that he had contributed 10 million yen to the scandal-ridden Murakami Yoshiaki fund.

At a press conference on June 15, JCP Chair Shii Kazuo said, "Fukui has an extremely grave political and moral responsibility. It is necessary to find out the truth, and the JCP insists on his immediate resignation as the BOJ governor."

Shii also stated his intention to pursue Prime Minister Koizumi Jun'ichiro's responsibility for appointing Fukui as the BOJ governor.

Shii pointed out that it is apparent to everyone that the Murakami fund is a fraud involving in speculative trading by deviating from legitimate financial rules.

"The BOJ governor has the highest responsibility for guaranteeing fairness and neutrality in Japan's financial administration. It is serious that Fukui continued putting money into the Murakami fund after taking office, despite knowing of Murakami's activities," said Shii.

Pointing out that as the top official representing the country's financial policy, Fukui has deprived the public of interest earnings by pushing the zero-interest policy while lining his own pockets by investing in the high interest Murakami fund.
