Progressive mayor returns to Higashi Osaka City In the Higashiosaka City mayoral election on July 2, candidate Nagao Junzo, supported by the Association for a Bright Higashiosaka City, defeated the incumbent backed by the Liberal Democratic and Komei parties by a narrow margin, regaining a democratic city administration. Nagao is a Japanese Communist Party member. The JCP now has seven municipality heads. Nagao received 51,821 votes while 50,842 votes were cast for his rival.
