Residents call for withdrawal of 'final report' on U.S. base realignment Representatives of the residents' group against the relocation of the U.S. Army 1st Corps Command to U.S. Camp Zama in Kanagawa Prefecture visited the Foreign Ministry and the Defense Agency on June 29 calling for a withdrawal of the "final report" on the realignment of U.S. Forces in Japan on the grounds that it will lead to strengthening and perpetuating the U.S. bases. Accompanied by Japanese Communist Party House of Councilors member Koike Akira, they submitted about 3,500 signatures in opposition to the strengthening of Camp Zama collected after the publication of the "final report". - Akahata, June 30, 2006 |
