JCP Ichida calls for international consensus to deal with North Korea's missile issue At a news conference on July 10, Japanese Communist Party Secretariat Head Ichida Tadayoshi expressed hope that the U.N. Security Council will call for the Six-Party Talks to be resumed to deal with the issue of North Korea's missile launches. He made this comment in answer to reporters' questions regarding the cautious attitude of China and Russia toward the draft resolution that Japan and three other countries submitted to the U.N. Security Council calling for sanctions against North Korea. Ichida said, "As it is still in negotiation, the situation may change, but all the countries agree on the need to resume the Six-Party Talks. I hope that the UNSC will draw a conclusion that calls for a resumption of the Six-Party Talks as the consensus of the international community." Ichida stressed the JCP's basic position on North Korea's missile launch that Chair Shii Kazuo stated in the executive committee report and the concluding remark at the JCP Central Committee 2nd Plenum, and said, "The important question is whether the international community will be united in pressing North Korea to come back to the Six-Party Talks or will deal with the issue without consensus. We hope that the Japanese government fully considers this point and makes an effort to draw the conclusion that international society must stick together to compel North Korea to return to the Six-Party Talks." - Akahata, July 11, 2006 |
