Ichida criticizes government officials' remarks indicating possibility of attacking North Korea Japanese Communist Party Secretariat Head Ichida Tadayoshi during a press conference on July 10 criticized remarks made by Foreign Minister Aso Taro and Defense Agency Director General Nukaga Fukushiro indicating the possibility of Japan attacking North Korea, as well as remarks by Chief Cabinet Secretary Abe Shinzo stating the need for Japan to consider and study the capability to attack North Korea. Ichida said, "It may lead to an endless arms race. It is a preemptive attack strategy, and we do not agree with them. The issue must be solved through diplomatic efforts." He also said, "It is wrong for the government to regard this issue as a golden opportunity to further develop Japan's military power." - Akahata, July 11, 2006 |
