Shii talks with South Korean historians

Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo talked with South Korean historians, Professor Emeritus at Korea University Kang Man Gil and Dean of College of Liberal Arts of Korea University Cho Kwang, at the Seodaemun Prison Museum in Seoul on September 6.

Shii said to them, "I visited this museum to pay tribute to Korean patriots as well as to foster friendly relations between our two countries. The JCP also waged struggles against Japan's colonial rule of Korea, and both of us were in fact on the same side sharing similar oppression. This is my first visit to the ROK, but nevertheless I think that we can understand each other."

Kang said, "We must teach and learn history no matter how painful and shameful it may be. As the head of a governmental commission to inquire into pro-Japan anti-national activities, I hope that Japanese people understand that we are working in order not to repeat the same error."
