2006 Spring Struggle more successful than last year

In the 2006 Spring Struggle, 1,668 labor unions, 130 more than last year, have achieved positive results such as pay raises for part-time workers and cuts in working hours. This was announced by the People's Spring Struggle Joint Struggle Committee on September 15.

Wage increases and improvement of working conditions for part-timers were brought about by 525 unions, 233 more than in 2005. They are affiliated to the Japan Federation of Co-op Labor Unions, the Japan Federation of Medical Workers' Unions (Iroren), the National Confederation of Trade Unions-National Union of General Workers, the All Japan Construction, Transport and General Worker's Union (Kenkoro), the National Union of Welfare and Childcare Workers, and the Japan Federation of Prefectural and Municipal Workers' Unions.

The average increase in hourly wage achieved by 211 unions was 16 yen (last year: 198 unions and 13.3 yen).

Conclusions of new agreements on an in-house minimum wage or increase in minimum wage was achieved by 326 unions (last year: 250), including 135 Kenkoro-affiliated and 64 Iroren-affiliated unions.
