Shii protests against North Korea's nuclear test Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo on October 9 published the following statement on North Korea's announcement that it conducted an underground nuclear test on October 9. North Korea conducted a nuclear test explosion today in defiance of unanimous international opposition as expressed in a U.N. Security Council resolution and a UNSC presidential statement warning against such action as a threat to peace and stability in Asia and elsewhere in the world. This is an outrageous breach of international agreements, including the Six-Party Talks and the Japan-DPRK Pyongyang Declaration. The JCP strongly protests against North Korea's action. The JCP strongly demands that North Korea abandon its nuclear weapons program and that it return to the Six-Party Talks immediately and without condition. We believe it important for the international community to join forces to deal with this issue, standing firm for a peaceful and diplomatic solution. - Akahata, October 11, 2006 |
