Experts suspect radiation leaks from U.S. nuclear submarine Japanese experts strongly suspect that the radioactive material detected near the U.S. nuclear attack submarine Honolulu berthed at U.S. Yokosuka Naval Base on September 14 actually came from the submarine. The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology on October 5 held a meeting of experts in charge of the investigation of submarine radioactivity. While avoiding giving a clear declaration, the meeting concluded in its statement, "It cannot be denied that the incident was caused by radioactive material created inside of the reactor of the Honolulu."
