International unity and peaceful solution key to North Korean issue: JCP Dietmembers Japanese Communist Party Dietmembers have used their question period to demand that in dealing with the North Korean nuclear issue the government attach importance to the unity of the international community and search for the peaceful resolution. At the House of Representatives Budget Committee meeting on October 10, JCP representative Kasai Akira stated, "The most important task now is for the international community to work in concert and solve the North Korean issue peacefully and diplomatically." Prime Minister Abe Shinzo responded, "I share the same opinion with the Communist Party in this respect." At the House of Councilors Budget Committee meeting on October 11, JCP representative Inoue Satoshi stated, "It is very important to use persuasion to make North Korea realize that building normal and stable relationships with other countries through liquidating lawless international activities will best serve its national security." Inoue pointed out that in the wake of the North Korean nuclear test politicians and commentators are calling for severe sanctions asserting that the Six-Party Talks have deadlocked and that the Japan-DPRK Pyongyang Declaration has collapsed. He criticized such arguments by saying, "Japan should consistently seek solutions based on the Japan-DPRK Pyongyang Declaration." The prime minister stated, "Japan needs to work on North Korea to get it back to the spirit of the Pyongyang Declaration." - Akahata, October 12, 2006 |
