JCP Shii issues statement welcoming agreement to resume Six-Party Talks Concerning the Chinese government announcement that the Six-Party Talks will resume soon, Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo on October 31 issued the following statement: "The Chinese Foreign Ministry announced that at the invitation of China, the heads of delegations to the Six-Party Talks from China, North Korea, and the United States had an informal meeting in Beijing and that they agreed that the Six-Party Talks be held soon, at a time convenient to the six parties. This agreement is consistent with the consensus of the international community as was expressed in the United Nations Security Council's unanimous resolution calling for North Korea's immediate return to the Six-Party Talks without preconditions and a settlement of the problem through peaceful diplomatic efforts. The JCP earnestly welcomes this development. The JCP hopes that the Six-Party Talks will be resumed as early as possible and the parties concerned will make serious efforts in order to achieve the goal of the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula." - Akahata, November 1, 2006 |
