Shii congratulates Nicaraguan president-elect Daniel Ortega

Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo sent the following message to Daniel Ortega, the leader of the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN), congratulating him on his election as Nicaragua's president.

We sincerely congratulate you on your victory in the Nicaraguan presidential election.

We have been following with keen interest Latin America's growing movement calling for economic democracy and an end to U.S. dominance. Your return to political power through popular vote will further accelerate the ongoing movement for progressive change.

We hope that the new government under your leadership will achieve many successes in building an independent Nicaragua representing the will of its people.

Ever since the Sandinista Revolution in 1979, the JCP has been developing friendship and solidarity with the FSLN through mutual visits. We hope that ties between our two parties will be further strengthened in the new phase of development.
