Shii meets with Principal Hong Kong Economic and Trade Tokyo Representative On November 27, Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo met at the JCP head office with Jennie Chok, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government's Principal Economic and Trade Representative in Japan. Chok outlined her activities since she assumed the post last February and the role of her office, and expressed her hope to further strengthen relations between Hong Kong and Japan. Shii in reply expressed his hope that both Hong Kong, which maintains a high standard of technology and economy, and Mainland China, which aims at development toward socialism by making use of the market economy will develop through their interaction based on "one country, two systems." Expressing her thanks to Shii's remarks, Chok said that the on-going economic integration between Mainland China and Hong Kong is mutually beneficial. She said that since Hong Kong's retrocession in 1997, the Chinese government has guaranteed Hong Kong's autonomy outside of diplomacy and defense, in accordance with the agreement with Britain, Hong Kong's former suzerain. She emphasized that due to its political stability as well as its economic strength Hong Kong is regarded as an important investment destination. Shii explained about JCP policies for settling historical issues and establishing a community of nations for peace in East Asia. Chok said that these are important tasks, and expressed her hope to strengthen relations with the JCP and further develop economic relations with Japan. - Akahata, November 28, 2006 |
