Shii congratulates Venezuelan President Chavez

Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo sent on December 5 the following message to Hugo Chavez, congratulating him on his election as Venezuela's president:

Please accept our warmest greetings of celebration and solidarity for your victory in the presidential election in Venezuela, enjoying the support of the majority of the people.

You won on the basis of the confidence the people have in your government, building on the results of your endeavors to defend the rights and livelihoods of the people and to promote progressive social change.

We sincerely hope that your government will be even more successful in the struggle to oppose neo-liberalism and to pursue the path of independent nation-building. We also firmly believe that your victory in this election will further promote the movement for progressive political change and true independence which is spreading across Latin America since your first election as president in 1998.

The JCP strongly hopes that the friendship and cooperation with your government, which we established and promoted in the past few years, will further develop and deepen.
