Shii meets with China-Japan Friendship Association President Song Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo met China-Japan Friendship Association President Song Jian and his delegation visiting Tokyo, and exchanged views on various issues at the JCP head office on December 8. Song explained that his delegation is aiming at promoting Japan-China relations, particularly through people-to-people diplomacy. Pointing out that the year 2007 marks the 35th anniversary of the Japan-China Joint Declaration and that the year 2008 marks the 30th anniversary of the conclusion of the Japan-China Peace and Friendship Treaty, he stressed the need to further develop good relations between the two countries and asked the JCP for its cooperation. Shii outlined how the JCP had recently grappled with historical questions, and explained the JCP's view concerning the latest Japan-China summit meeting. He said that though a positive change took place, further efforts are needed. Song valued the JCP's efforts in promoting relations between the two countries. He said the development of the "strategic relationship of mutual benefit" agreed on at the summit meeting serves the interests of both countries and requires the efforts of both sides. Shii and Song also exchanged views on peace and development of Northeast Asia, the importance of private sector exchanges, and development of theoretical exchanges between the JCP and the Communist Party of China on a future society and other themes. - Akahata, December 9, 2006 |
