Shii exchanges views on Doi Moi and socialism with CPV Hanoi Committee secretary

Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo held talks with Communist Party of Vietnam Hanoi Committee Secretary Pham Quang Nghi (CPV Politburo member) in Hanoi on January 11.

Nghi explained that Hanoi City has achieved great success under the Doi Moi (renovation) policies in the past 20 years, and said, "I appreciate the JCP's protracted support for the Vietnamese anti-U.S. national salvation war and efforts to build socialism after the war."

Shii in reply said, "Your victory in the anti-U.S. national salvation war changed world history and encouraged our struggles in Japan." Referring to his visit to the Song Long industry cooperative in Hanoi, Shii said, "I felt that the Vietnamese Doi Moi policy line has a promising future."

The secretary said, "We still have many problems to solve in our undertakings to create a socialist-oriented market economy."

Shii said, "In order to build the socialist system, I think it is important to create in the basic production unit a relationship in which producers are the protagonists."

Nghi responded by explaining the legal framework that enables workers to be the protagonists in the state economy as well as in the collective economies.

They exchanged views on Doi Moi and issues of building socialism.
