JCP Ichida meets with Iranian ambassador At the invitation of Iranian Ambassador to Japan Mohsen Talaei, Japanese Communist Party Secretariat Head Ichida Tadayoshi on February 1 had a conversation over lunch with the ambassador at his official residence in Tokyo. In a friendly atmosphere, they spoke about the Iraqi issue, peace in Asia and the rest of the world, dialogues between difference civilizations, and exchanges between Japan and Iran. In response to the Talaei's explanation about the Iranian nuclear programs, Ichida stated, "It is important to seek a peaceful and diplomatic solution. Although the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty has problems of differentiating between countries by allowing some to monopolize nuclear weapons, the JCP is opposed to the emergence of a new nuclear weapons state." The ambassador again stressed that Iran does not seek nuclear weapons. Ichida thanked the ambassador for the meeting, and Talaei expressed that he wish to continue worthwhile exchanges of this kind. - Akahata, February 2, 2007 |
