JCP announces May Day slogans
The Japanese Communist Party announced its slogans for the 79th May Day in Japan as follows:
- Stop the poverty rate from increasing and economic inequalities from widening. - Revise the Worker Dispatch Law into one of protecting temporary workersf rights. - Promote contingent workers to full-time positions; establish a uniform national minimum wage system at an hourly wage of no less than 1,000 yen. - Eliminate wage gaps between men and women. - Eradicate unpaid overtime work. - Set rules for decent working conditions. - Build a society where young people can live with hope.
- Ensure the minimum standards of living in conformity with Article 25 of the Constitution. - Abolish the new medical insurance system for the elderly aged 75 and over. - Solve the shortage of doctors and nurses so that safe and through medical services will be provided. - Establish a minimum pension benefit system. - Reduce the worldfs highest college tuition fees.
- Abolish the system to squander tax money on the construction of unnecessary roads. - Put more priority on households than large corporations in economic policies. - Cut military expenditure and increase budgets for peoplefs living conditions and welfare programs. - Do not raise the consumption tax rate.
- Revitalize Japanese agriculture to provide safe food. - Protect the global environment. - Stop global warming. - Get corporations to fulfill their social responsibilities. - Restrict the overflow of speculative money that has caused the rise in commodity prices.
- Stop the attempt to adversely revise Article 9 of the Constitution and prevent Japan from being turned into a country that wages wars. - Let the Constitution guide the peoplefs living.
- Get Japan to change its foreign policy into one of independence and support for peace in opposition to any justification of Japanfs past war of aggression and colonization.
- Stop the illegal U.S. occupation of Iraq. - Stop the unconstitutional dispatch of the Self-Defense Forces to Iraq.
- Block the move to create a permanent law to send the SDF abroad. - No realignment of U.S. bases in Japan. - Protest against crimes committed by U.S. servicemen. - Abrogate the Japan-U.S. Security Treaty. - Extend relief for Hibakusha (Atomic bomb survivors) now. - Abolish nuclear weapons worldwide.
- Rise to struggle to influence government policies. - Block the move to create a two-party system uncritically serving the U.S. and Japanfs business circles. - Drastically change Japanfs politics with a Japanese Communist Party advance. - Akahata, April 27, 2008
