JCP congratulates Paraguay's president-elect Lugo

Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo sent the following message congratulating Fernando Lugo of the Patriotic Alliance for Change (APC) of Paraguay on his election as the country’s president:

Please accept my congratulations on your election as the president of Paraguay.

Your victory represents the Paraguayan people’s wish to replace the 61 years of conservative government, that includes an era of military rule, with a people-first government. I am sure that your victory will be remembered as an historic turning point.

I wish you every success with the new administration under your leadership in addressing various tasks to achieve peace, democracy, better living standards for the people, and the development of cooperation among South American countries. - Akahata, May 20, 2008
