Yoshioka Yoshinori dies Yoshioka Yoshinori, former Japanese Communist Party member of the House of Councilors and former director of the JCP central organ Akahata, died on March 1 at a hospital in Seoul, South Korea. Yoshioka was in Seoul to attend a symposium marking the 90th anniversary of the Korean people's struggle for independence from Japanese colonial rule sponsored by the Japan Asia, Africa and Latin America Solidarity Committee (AALA). Yoshioka, in the keynote report to the gathering, expounded on the brutal suppression carried out by the Imperial Japanese Army. He collapsed immediately after the symposium and was taken to the hospital. Yoshioka Yoshinori was born in Shimane in May 1928. He joined the JCP in 1948. He was elected to the JCP Central Committee in 1980. He served as a member of the House of Councilors for three terms from 1986 to 2004. ? Akahata, March 3, 2009 |
