Dear Mr. Shii:
President Obama asked me to respond on his behalf and thank you for your letter of April 28 in which you shared your impressions of his speech in Prague and conveyed your views on how we can best achieve a world free of nuclear weapons.
We appreciate your passion for this issue and look forward to working with the Government of Japan to make concrete progress towards this goal. If countries worldwide make a strong commitment to strengthening the Nuclear
Nonproliferation Treaty, the rapid start of negotiations on a treaty to ban the production of fissile material for use in nuclear weapons, and to the entry into force of the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty, we can shift perceptions and build new momentum toward a nuclear-weapons free world.
Thank you again for your thoughtful correspondence.
Sincerely yours,
Glyn T. Davies, Acting /S/
