Diet session extended in order to have undemocratic bills enacted

The House of Representatives on June 2 approved a government proposal to extend the current ordinary session of the Diet for 55 days after June 3. The Japanese Communist Party and other opposition parties voted against the extension.

Speaking in the House of Representatives Plenary Session on behalf of the JCP, Kensho Sasaki criticized Prime Minister Aso Taro for refusing to hold a House of Representatives elections and continuing to force the public to endure the hardships that his policies caused.

Pointing out that the Aso Cabinet is intent on getting the so-called "anti-piracy" bill enacted and on pushing ahead with the drafting of regulations for a process of constitutional revision, Sasaki said, "We categorically oppose any moves to extend the Diet session for railroading undemocratic laws."
