Shii says draft U.N. resolution sets forth reasoned and calm measures against North Korea
Japanese Communist Party Shii Kazuo said that the draft resolution agreed upon by United Nations Security Council members on June 11 (Japan time) regarding the North Korean nuclear test is greasoned and calm, and will send a strong unanimous message to North Korea from the international community that it is committed to taking non-military measures under Article 41 of the U.N. Charter.h
At a news conference on the same day, Shii explained that the JCP had lodged a strong protest against the North Korean nuclear test and that the party had called for the international community to take unified action to impose diplomatic measures, which are most effective, to have the North return to the Six Party Talks. gThe present resolution is appropriate in this sense,h he added.
Shii stated, gThe North Korean nuclear test was in violation of U.N. Security Council resolution 1718. The international community needs to respond to it by imposing certain strong measures. It is important that the resolution makes it clear that the measures will be taken in accordance with Article 41 of the U.N. Charter because this means that measures taken will be non-military.h - Akahata, June 12, 2009
