All 7 JCP candidates elected to Nara City Assembly

All seven candidates of the Japanese Communist Party on July 12 won in an assembly election in the ancient city of Nara, receiving the highest ever amount of votes for the party, and thus the JCP secured its pre-election strength in the city assembly.

The JCP increased its votes by 120 percent to 24,312.

In this election, 48 candidates contested 39 seats, cut by seven from the previous seats. Voter turnout was 56.12 percent.

JCP members in Nara City fought in the election on an upward trend with the largest ever JCP membership, more readers of both the daily Akahata and Akahata Sunday edition than the readership at the time of the previous election, and growing number of JCP supporters.

Unfortunately, in the Nara City mayoral election that took place on the same day, the candidate recommended by the JCP fell short of winning against the candidate backed by the Liberal Democratic and Komei parties.
