JCP Dietmembers resolve to fight a historic battle Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo urged all JCP members of the Diet to use all their might to win a JCP advance in the August 30 House of Representatives general election so that "we can pave the way for a new Japan that enables every citizen to help create a hopeful society without anxieties." Shii made the remark during the general meeting of the JCP Dietmembers' Group on July 21, hours before Prime Minister Aso Taro dissolved the House of Representatives for a general election. Stressing that the party was "responding to a political cataclysm," he said that the upcoming general election would be an "election to choose a course a new Japan will take." JCP lawmakers confirmed their determination to: 1. Speak for the majority who rejects the Liberal Democratic and Komei party-led government; 2. Reach out to voters and explain the JCP's "two main objectives" (an economy governed by rules and diplomacy based on sovereign independence), the aim being to build a national consensus on these objectives essential to charting a course for a new Japan to take if the LDP-Komei government is replaced; and 3. Appeal to voters that if a DPJ-led government is established, the JCP will remain a responsive opposition party and act in accordance with the needs of the public by expressing its support for policies on a case-by-case basis. Shii added that the JCP is a "party that struggles to find a breakthrough in the present crisis while listening and responding to people about their suffering related to various hardships." - Akahata, July 22, 2009 |
