JCP Shii stresses significance of new organization of Latin American and Caribbean countries

Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo on February 25, commenting on a new move emerging in Central and South America, stated, “The new organization of all Latin American and Caribbean countries has a historic significance.”

Latin American and Caribbean countries in the Latin American and Caribbean Unity Summit meeting which was held in Mexico on February 22 and 23 decided to form a Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELC).

It is significant that not only countries critical of the United States but also pro-U.S. countries have shown the world their will to form an organization without the United States and take a step toward establishing a true regional sovereignty free from U.S. influence and regional solidarity for peace in Latin America, the so-called “U.S. backyard”, Shii pointed out.

He also said: The trend in exploring for non-military means in peace cooperation are also developing in Asia and Africa. In the light of these world trends, the extraordinary existence of the Japan-U.S. military alliance stands out in sharp relief.
