JCP asks govt questions on secret nuclear deal Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo on March 18 announced that he submitted to the government written questions regarding Japan-U.S. secret pacts on nuclear weapons. He is asking the government if it recognizes that the gRecord of Discussionh is an official document agreed upon between Japan and the United States and if it admits to the possibility that U.S. nuclear-capable atomic-powered submarines came to Japanese ports after 1994. Shii stated, gI want to know if the government can provide assurances for the observance of Japanfs Three Non-nuclear Principles. The 1994 U.S. Nuclear Posture Review states that the U.S. administration maintains submarines capable of carrying nuclear cruise missiles. I believe the U.S. will maintain this policy. So, the Japanese government should guarantee that any U.S. submarines coming to Japanese ports are not or will not be capable of carrying nuclear warheads.h - Akahata, March 19, 2010
