Have big corporations fulfill their responsibility to protect environment: JCP Kasai Japanese Communist Party Lower House member Kasai Akira on June 18 called for major corporations to fulfill their social responsibility for environmental conservation. He made the remark at an assembly held by environmental NGOs to hear about political parties' environment policies. Representatives of the Social Democratic, Komei, and Your parties also took part in the rally while the Democratic and the Liberal Democratic parties were absent. Representatives of environmental groups such as the WWF-Japan and Kiko Network stated, "The government should establish a growth strategy based on environmental protection. Although both the DPJ and the LDP in their policy put high priority on economic growth, the environment should become a key issue in the upcoming House of Councilors election." Explaining the JCP policy regarding the environment, Kasai said, "The reasons why global warming and environmental disruption are worsening are because big corporations place ultimate priority on making profit, and because the government policies support such corporate practices and prioritize the Japan-U.S. military alliance. What the government should do is to urge large corporations as well as the United States to fulfill their social responsibilities. As a political party which has directly negotiated with large corporations as well as the United States, the JCP will make its utmost effort to fully and responsibly address pressing environment issues." - Akahata, June 20, 2010
