Ogata attends US independence day reception Japanese Communist Party Ogata Yasuo on July 8 attended a reception held at the U.S. ambassador's official residence in Tokyo to celebrate the 234th anniversary of the independence of the U.S. Ogata offered his congratulations to U.S. Ambassador to Japan John Roos and handed him a letter from JCP Chair Shii Kazuo, who could not make it to the reception due to the ongoing Upper House election campaign. Shii in his letter expressed his "sincere congratulations on a great day for humanity to commemorate" and wrote, "Please accept my deepest respect for the U.S. history of revolution for independence day and democracy." - Akahata, July 9, 2010
