JCP lawmaker meets with Pingdingshan massacre survivors

Japanese Communist Party member of the House of Councilors Inoue Satoshi on October 4 met with survivors of the Pingdingshan massacre at the Dietmembers' building.

A group of survivors and bereaved families of the 1932 Pindingshan massacre demands that the Japanese government accept the incident as historical fact and acknowledge its responsibility for the incident, construct a monument as part of its apology and as a place to commemorate victims, and make efforts to reveal the full information about the incident and to hand it down to the next generation.

In the meeting Inoue said, "It is obvious that the Japanese government should take responsibility for the incident. The survivors' demands are reasonable. The JCP, together with other political parties, will urge the government to respond to the demands."

The Pingdingshan massacre occurred during Japan's war of aggression against China. On September 16, 1932, about 3,000 unarmed Chinese citizens were slaughtered by the former Japanese Imperial Army at Pingdingshan of Fushun City in the northeast area of China.
