On January 27, 39 pilots and cabin attendants, plaintiffs in a lawsuit seeking the revocation of their dismissals by Japan Airlines, sat in on the House of Representatives plenary session.
In the session, Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo took the floor and urged Prime Minister Kan Naoto to instruct JAL to retract its dismissal against 165 employees. Replying to Shii, Kan only said, “I’ll defer to a court judgment about JAL’s dismissals.”
After the session, pilots and cabin attendants met with Shii in the Diet building.
Hayashi Emiko, a cabin attendant, said, “Shii expressed our anger to the Diet.” “The prime minister is irresponsible because he is leaving our dismissals to a court judgment”, she added.
Pilot Hara Masakazu said, “The government’s past aviation policy is the cause for JAL’s collapse. That’s why it is wrong for the prime minister to avoid expressing his opinion on JAL’s mass dismissal.”
In the meeting, Shii expressed his determination that the JCP will take the prime minister to task in the Lower House Budget Committee meetings.
